Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we protect it.
1. Who We Are
beanz.ug is a coffee ordering platform operating in Kampala, Uganda. We are the data controller for personal information collected through our website and mobile application. Contact us at privacy@beanz.ug with any privacy-related questions.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly: your name, phone number, email address, and payment details when you register or place an order. We also collect information automatically when you use our platform: device type, IP address, pages visited, and order history. We do not collect sensitive personal data such as health information or national ID numbers.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to: process and fulfil your orders; send order confirmations and status updates via SMS or email; manage your rewards stamp card; improve our platform and personalise your experience; comply with legal obligations; and prevent fraud and abuse. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
4. Sharing Your Information
We share your information only as necessary: with cafe partners to fulfil your order (name and order details only); with our payment processor DGateway to process Mobile Money payments; with SMS/email service providers to send you notifications; and with law enforcement when required by Ugandan law. All third parties are contractually required to protect your data.
5. Mobile Money Payments
Payment processing is handled by DGateway. When you pay via MTN or Airtel Mobile Money, your payment credentials are processed directly by DGateway and are not stored on beanz.ug servers. Please review DGateway's privacy policy for details on how they handle payment data.
6. Data Retention
We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. Order history is retained for 3 years for legal and accounting purposes. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting privacy@beanz.ug. Some data may be retained longer where required by law.
7. Your Rights
Under Ugandan data protection law, you have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; correct inaccurate data; request deletion of your data (subject to legal retention requirements); object to processing of your data for marketing purposes; and withdraw consent at any time. To exercise these rights, contact privacy@beanz.ug.
8. Cookies and Tracking
Our website uses essential cookies to keep you logged in and remember your cart. We use analytics cookies (anonymised) to understand how people use our platform. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but this may affect functionality. Our mobile app uses local storage for similar purposes.
9. Security
We use industry-standard security measures including HTTPS encryption, hashed passwords, and access controls to protect your data. However, no system is completely secure. Please use a strong password and do not share your login credentials.
10. Children's Privacy
beanz.ug is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or an in-app notice. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
